The George Peabody House Musuem is housed in his restored birthplace and serves as a community cultural center maintained by the City of Peabody. The Museum has excellent exhibits on tanneries and the tanning process, including videos of people who worked in the tanneries. The house itself is an example of shoe making as a cottage industry in the early phase. The small scale replica of a Beam shop includes numerous leather-making artifacts. In addition to theme exhibits, the Civic Center has a lovely conference facility designed for meetings, receptions, and special exhibitions.
