Broad Canal
Historic Site
Site of future boardwalk to be built by Mirant Energy as mitigation under Mass. Chapter 91. After a long fight with the city and the property owner, The boardwalk is nearly built, and the pocket park at First street is under construction.
Did you know that maps from the 1840's and 1850's show the Broad Canal extending almost to Cardinal Medeiros Ave. then joining the North Canal and connecting to the Miller's River making East Cambridge an ISLAND?
On the river
Surface ripples made by herring.
From the end looking towards Boston.
Black-crowned night heron.
Reflection and ripples made by young fish.
Plan filed at Registry of Deeds showing the boardwalk. It is the shaded feature running across the southern boundary of their property. Broad Canal is at the bottom.
