First opened in 1928 in Whittier Square, Tulsa's first suburban shopping center. Refurbished in 1963, reopened in 1978 as an "adult theater." The Circle Theater is the only pre-1960‚s theater still in existence. The Circle Cinema Foundation bought and began refurbishing the theater in 2003. The Circle Cinema hosts current documentaries, independent and foreign films; film premieres of locally produced and directed films; film festivals; films co-sponsored by Tulsa non-profit organizations for their audiences; films created by filmmaking classes ˆ high school and college; events which include film, speakers, and audience involvement.
