Lynn Lary, Lane ESD

Technology Integration Specialist/Coordinator

The Lane ESD provides a variety of services to Lane County Schools. As the instructional technology specialist, I get to work with teachers from all over the county. It is a fun and rewarding job.

Because I travel to many different schools, I take lots of equipment with me, which I generally have to pack and unpack with each trip. As a result I have adopted Todd Hamilton's idea of creating and using a staff development toolbox. I call my toolbox, Toolbox 2.0 which is always packed and ready to go.

Want to see what's in it? Check out my pictures!

Lane ESD...the trees are gone, and this view doesn't exist outside of Photoshop. ;-)

Here I am with Toolbox 2.0. I found this at Costco ($49). It comes with two parts: a soft contractors bag and a hard toolbox that has wheels and a built in dolly.

The toolbox has a removeable tray.

Here are the items that I have in the bottom of the toolbox: projector, document camera, powerstrip, and speaker (yes, that flat grey thing is a Logitec speaker).

The top tray in the toolbox contains: highlighters, pencils, permanent markers, whiteboard markers, nametags, 3x5 cards, postits, masking tape, rubberbands, paperclips, digital camera, laser pointer, screwdriver, various video and other adapters.

In the soft contractors bag, I have a variety of cables (long ethernet, USB, mini USB, firewire, RCA), card reader, floppy disk drive (just in case!), blank CDs and DVDs, spare batteries, chocolate, and these cups.

The cups are used by workshop participants. Each person gets one of each color and then stacks them according to their state of mind:

Blue: I'm doing well, please don't disturb.
Yellow: I have aa question when you get a chance.
Red: I need help and can't move on.
