Community Arts Resources (CARS) CicLAvia Park[ing]

Time: 10am - 3pm

On Friday, September 18th, Community Arts Resources (CARS) will turn two parking spots in front of the Wiltern Building on Wilshire into an engaging, interactive, and entertaining temporary public space for Angelenos to enjoy. CARS will offer a hands-on craft workshop for its PARKing Day visitors– an artistic activity that will offer participants a new purpose for occupying the street. CARS, producers of live cultural events for over 25 years, has invited local artists to stop by our temporary park to surprise the public with spontaneous performances throughout the day. In addition, CARS will present information on both its work and that of the CicLAvía committee here in Los Angeles. CicLAvía is a recurring, temporary free event that would shut down Los Angeles streets to traffic in favor of pedestrian and bicycle use. CARS has been active in molding CicLAvía into an implementable program.

Park[ing] Day LA

The third annual Park[ing] Day LA, which will be on Friday, September 18th, will bring together a diverse constituency of community groups, neighborhood councils, design & architecture firms, professional organizations, non-profits, cyclists & pedestrian advocates as they work together to transform numerous parking spaces & parking lots located throughout LA into ephemeral parks for the day. By occupying a parking spot and feeding the meter, volunteers will enhance the street with a sustainably designed pocket-park.
