I will be working at Fish Creek Camp Ground as an Environmental Education Assistant. I am in charge of all the outdoor programs at the park which are free to the campers and they can come participate if they like. Our programs range from fishing programs, nature walks, tree ID books, hiking mountains, pretty much anything a kid would want to do. I sometimes bring out the big kid in the parents by throwing in a game of kickball. I will be doing more fishing as well, along with my capstone.

I will be working as a research assistant for Kenneth Schmidt through Texas Tech University. We will be avian conducting research at the Institute for Ecosystem Studies in Millbrook, NY. It will be focused on ovenbirds and veeries in terms of behavioral ecology in oak dominated forests in the region. Duties will include mist-netting and color banding individuals, nest searching and gathering observational data on the banded birds throughout the summer, as well as the possibility of recording veery songs for future use in research.

Chris will be monitoring a diversity of wildlife populations in NE Montana. This will include visual encounter and dipnet surveys for amphibians, visual encounter surveys for reptiles, small mammal trapping, and acoustic detection of bats. The project is a pilot project to determine how to monitor a variety of taxa with estimation of occupancy rates and detection probabilities in major habitat cover types. The information will be used to update the Montana Species of Concern List and prioritize conservation funding.
