The park is located on the corner of Tyler and Franklin Streets and measures 150 feet and 250 feet. The basic design of the park was kept, but repairs were made to the brick walkways, lighting fixtures and granite seating caps. A rose garden was planted thanks to the Tampa Rose Society who prepped the planting area and installed the 40 rose bushes. An ornamental black fence and water fountain were also installed.

The cost of the improvements and repairs was $83,700 and was paid for with Tax Increment Financing (TIF) funds.

Herman Massey Park originally opened in 1988 and is named after a former Parks Department director.

This park would not have been possible if not for the Florida Communities Trust (FCT) Grant Program. The City was able to purchase the land through this state land acquisition grant program that provides funding to local governments for acquisition of community-based parks, open space and greenways.

MacDill Park on the Riverwalk has been adopted by its neighbor, the Sheraton Tampa Riverwalk Hotel. The Adopt-a-Park Program is administered by the Mayor’s Beautification Program. For more information on adopting a park or right of way, please visit www.mbptree.org or call 813-221-8733.

Oaklawn Cemetery
Oaklawn Cemetery was Tampa’s first public burial ground. The Alachua County Commissioners deeded the location in the mid 1800s. It was named as the final resting-place for "White and Slave, Rich and Poor". In 1889 the Committee on Cemetery & Hospitals recommended that the name be changed to Park Cemetery. Many prominent citizens objected loudly and the name was never changed.

The First Mayor of the City of Tampa Judge Joseph B. Lancaster rests here at Oaklawn.

The Sexton house originally known as the Pavilion or Gazebo was built in 1910 at a cost of $410.00. In 1976 Oaklawn was declared a Historic Cemetery.

Historian Jeff Gordon has written a 2-volume book on Oaklawn that is available through the Public library.

Marion Transit Center
The Marion Transit Center serves as a pickup, drop-off and transfer location for 15 local HART routes, 11 Commuter Express routes, the In-Town Trolley and the inter-county Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority Routes 100X and 300X.

The Center is located at 1211 N. Marion Street in downtown Tampa and sits on 1.23 acres just west of Tampa’s historic Oaklawn Cemetery. The facility consists of two structures: a larger main building housing a patron lobby, customer service area, drivers’ lounge, and office space; and a clock tower with a ground floor concession area. A pedestrian-friendly courtyard, decorated with tile mosaics and lined with cast iron lampposts, connects the two structures.

Service and convenience for transit users is a high priority for HART, therefore many patron amenities were built into the Marion Transit Center. The site’s hourglass shape, along with its trellis-covered walkways, allow for shorter walks between buses, and shelter from sun and rain. The canopy was designed like a garden arbor. Planter walls throughout the site provide ample seating.

Henry B. Plant Museum
If you’re railroad magnate Henry Bradley Plant, in the midst of the sand swamps that would be Tampa, you construct the most astonishingly magnificent hotel of its day, then fill it with treasures from around the world. With its splendid Moorish architecture, opulent furnishings, and spectacular tropical gardens, Plant’s Tampa Bay Hotel attracted a host of celebrated guests, from Teddy Roosevelt to Sarah Bernhardt to Babe Ruth. A visit to the Henry B. Plant Museum and the authentically restored rooms of the Tampa Bay Hotel will transport you back to a time of indulgent ten-course meals, waltzing on the veranda and alligator hunting by moonlight... The journey is still worthwhile.

New Apartment Building?
In late January 2009, Developers Intown Group and Crosland plan to ask Tampa City Council to rezone property at Tampa and Tyler streets (see proposed apartment tower map).

The art deco style project would have 404 apartments, 16,000 square feet of shops and a parking garage, and will be similar to New York City’s Chrysler Building and Empire State Building.
