Hello, my name is Tim Duncan, owner of Betty's Parkway Restaurant, and for years people have been trying to figure out what makes our steaks so tender and so delicious. The secret is a recipe left behind by my mother, Betty. Betty started Betty's Parkway Restaurant in 1987 using her experience in the kitchen. She set out to come up with an item that would get customers in the door at the restaurant, so she stumbled on to this recipe of hers and changed a few things and what she came up with is a marinade that will tenderize any type meat and a flavor that is so delicious that you can't seem to get enough of it. Then she decided she would offer something at that time no one else in town offered... a 20 ounce steak with the fatty tail trimmed off, for a finished product that weighed 16 ounces. But she did not stop there. Then she put these steaks in a bucket of the marinade that she had come up with and discovered an item that did draw the crowd. Business has grown ever since.

On July 29, 1989 my mother passed away in her sleep and left behind a lot of decisions for me to make. One of them was, do I continue the business or do I continue to work construction?

Being her only heir I decided to continue the business and it is still growing today. In 1997 I decided to take in a partner, my wife Lynn. She has helped to motivate me even more.

For years the marinade we used was called just that (marinade) and for years people have been trying to get their hands on the recipe. So I have decided that this stuff is so good that we are going to sell it to the public. But I did not know what to call it. So I came up with a name and tossed it around and everyone agreed that the name fits, we call it Betty's Best. To keep my opinion out of it I had some friends and strangers help in testing and they have used this stuff on deer, chicken, pork chops, rattlesnake, hamburgers and of course steak and the results were the same every time. More tender and delicious marinated than un-marinated and taste much better marinated than un-marinated.

The marinade is mostly soy sauce but as you know most soy sauce has a kick to it. Not ours! My mother took her time in making the product just right, adding spices and juices that brought out the flavor of a good steak. What my mother did not know is that this stuff is great on any type of meat!

We started selling Betty's Best over the counter at the restaurant and it took off to the point that we had many customers suggesting we put it on the Internet so here it is, ENJOY! Click on the bottles of Betty's Best below to learn more about our fine product.

.w.rayS Steakhouse® opened for business in Columbia, TN, September 6, 2003. The vision for J.w.rayS® was to operate a restaurant that was smoke free and alcohol free, a restaurant that could rely on the quality of food to bring people back. From the beginning we were winning customers with high quality food and excellent service. Our hand-breaded products (Jw Fingers, jumbo shrimp, fried green tomatoes, and several others) quickly became customer favorites. These are signature products for J.w.rayS®, because we use our own secret recipe breading that we developed. We introduced Certified Angus Beef® six months after opening to give us an advantage over our competitors, but it also put us on a much higher level with upscale steakhouses around the country. In January 2004 we were voted by the readers of The Daily Herald® as "The Best Undiscovered Restaurant" in Maury County.

In the fall of 2004 marked our 1 year anniversary and the momentum started to build, we were flooded with new customers through an aggressive advertising campaign and "word of mouth" as our loyal customer base started to grow and word spread quickly.

Winter 2004 plans were set in motion that would eventually move us out of our 70 seat location where it all started and into a brand new building that seats over 175!!! That January our customers spoke once again in The Daily Herald®, and voted J.w.rayS® as having the best steaks and the best service in Maury County.

In March 2005, J.w.rayS Steakhouse® of Pulaski, TN opened for business. Along the way we were asked by numerous customers "is this a chain" due to the excellent food and professional service - and now we say YES it is.

Summer of 2005 the original J.w.rayS Steakhouse® in Columbia, TN will be moving to its new home, 4 1/2 miles north of it's current location. The new location will be the World Headquarters for J.w.rayS Steakhouse®
