Are you of a generation that looks at a group of young people, maybe wearing “hoodies” and “hanging around”, and thinks “they look threatening”, or “they’re up to no good”? Maybe you are of a generation that looks at someone with grey/white hair, a few wrinkles and thinks “they are just fuddy-duddies and know nothing”? If you are, then do think of joining our new initiative the Ash, Ash Vale & Tongham Community Street Team! We are an inter-generational, newly formed team of Volunteers, whose only aim is to go out onto the local streets and hopefully address what could be quite happily seen as mis-perceptions!

Being a parent, whatever your situation, can be very challenging, especially when children are young. Many parents feel exhausted and overwhelmed by the stresses of family life. For some parents it’s a particular struggle because they are also coping with issues such as post-natal depression, their or their child’s illness or disability, isolation or multiple births.
That’s when parents need support.
A carefully selected volunteer, who has parenting experience, can visit regularly and offer emotional and practical support. This friendly parent-to-parent support is a simple yet effective way of enabling families to get back on track.

Loneliness is predicted to be the next great health crisis, with proven links to malnutrition and dementia and, as bus services decline and families move apart, social isolation in rural areas becomes more acute.
