An Australian Poltergeist

In 1921 a series of disturbances began at the Bowen residence located just outside of Guyra, New South Wales, Australia. The disturbances took the form of knockings, rappings, falling rocks and smashed windows.

All activity seemed to take place in the vicinity of twelve year old Minnie Bowen who would become the scorn of the local community.

Originally designed as a sanatorium to accommodate the escalating numbers of tuberculosis patients, Beelitz-Heilstätten was then used as a military hospital for the Imperial German Army, and then the Soviet Army.

Later, a hunting ground for at least two killers, the abandoned structures slowly falling into ruin, are now said to be haunted.

Fear of Ghosts Close Schools in India

July 2007 a High School in Kusumgram, a small village 150kms outside of Kolkata closed due to fear of a local evil spirit. Toiba High School is adjacent to an old run down house in which the owner had died in the 1960's. The building is now said to be haunted.

After several girls of Toiba High School fainted in quick succession, it was feared the spirit had cast a spell on them. Parents soon stopped their children from attending classes and the Headmaster declared the school shut for several days.

Tragedy at Luna Park

Luna Park Sydney opened October 4th, 1935. The park enjoyed roaring trade up until the 1950's when numbers declined, mainly due to the increased popularity of television.

In January 1996, three young women came across a strange bipedal creature in the city of Varginha, Brazil. The brown skinned, large headed, yet slender bodied creature, appeared to be sick or injured. Regardless, the girls ran, thinking they had seen the devil.

Other sightings of the creature, and UFO's in the area, prompted a media storm, and soon the reports became international news. UFO's, aliens, cover ups and conspiracies would all become, what is now known as, the 'Varginha Incident'.

Scaphism / The Boats

Scaphism was a method of execution that was designed to inflict a lingering, painful and humiliating death, to those who were unfortunate enough to experience it.

The victim would be trapped between two boats, or other hollow objects, and their exposed head, arms and legs covered in honey. They would then be force fed nothing but milk and honey, before being left in the sun, or in a stagnant pool. Flies, other insects and rodents would be attracted to the victim, and would slowly eat them from both within and without.

'Lingchi', 'Slow Slicing', 'Death by a Thousand Cuts' and 'The Lingering Death' are all names used to describe a form of torture and execution that was used in China, Vietnam and several other eastern countries. It is a long, drawn out process, where the condemned is slowly taken apart, through methodical slicing, and the removal of body parts.

The Bedside Watcher

In this series of video stills from a surveilance/monitoring camera in a hospital, you can see what looks like a misty child-like human form, watching over a patient. However, there are at least three versions of who the person in the bed is, and what they are doing in the hospital: a sleep experiment, a dying elderly man or a terminally ill child.

The Haunting of Toys'R'Us

Since the Sunnyvale Toys'R'Us store opened in the early 1970's, staff and customers have experienced a wide range of strange goings on! The photograph you see here was taken during a séance held at the store, for a television show that was looking into the haunting.

Taken with an infrared sensitive camera, the photo shows the seated group, together with a figure standing at the back, watching. No one present remembers seeing anyone standing during the séance, and other cameras shooting the same view all failed to capture this figure.

The Little Girl Ghost of Wem Town Hall

In 1995 the Wem Town Hall (Shropshire, England) went up in flames. Firefighters struggled to bring the blaze under control and save what they could of the 90 year old building. An amateur photographer took photos of the burning building from across the street, and when they were developed, the image of a little girl was plain to see.

The London Beer Flood Ghost

In January 2012, Stuart C took this photograph in the Dominion Theatre. Staring back at the camera, between the couple, is the image of a deathly pale girl.

Stuart believes the image may be Eleanor Cooper, a young barmaid who drowned during the London Beer Flood of 1814. The Dominion Theatre stands on the site of the old Meux & Company Brewery, responsible for the 1.5 million litres of beer that burst from its holdings, flooding the nearby streets and killing at least seven people.

The O'Hare Mansion in Greencastle, Indiana, now demolished to make way for a corn field, leaves behind a creepy memento as Guy Winters captures these shots before the buildings destruction.

Mellified Man is a sweet, human medicine, said to cure any illness. An elderly man would diet on, and bathe in, nothing but honey, until he became 'mellifluous'.
