1902 City Directory and Payroll. Charles Heylman (or Hyleman) was born in Wisconsin in 1864 and moved to Minnesota in 1884. He worked an engineer on the Capitol and his son, Leroy, went to work there as a "toolboy" at the age of 15 in 1903. Charles is found in a April 27, 1902 Payroll for extra work when he was part of a select crew that spent that day, a Sunday, setting the statues. They both worked as engineers for their entire lives in St. Paul and raised families here. I believe their descendants still live in the area.
