1898-1901, 1904 City Directories and 1905 Payroll. Nicholas Martinson was born in Norway in 1849 and came to America with his wife and eldest son, Hans, in 1883. Nicholas worked on the Capitol as a laborer. Hans and Carl worked in the stone shed with the stone cutting machines. Hans was born in Norway in 1881 and Carl was born in Minnesota in 1885. Hans claims to be a carpenter in the 1910 Census but his WWI Draft Registration lists him as a marble worker. He claimed to be a "sawyer" in the 1901 City Directory. Carl Martinson worked on the Capitol as a laborer and blacksmith's helper and his name is found in the 1905 Payroll records.
