Shoulder eliminated near intersection

Category: Difficult Intersection

Used in the following map:

Moorestown Bicycle Circulation and Safety Plan

At this intersection (and many like them), the shoulder used for cycling is eliminated to accomodate auto traffic turn lanes. A left turn lane takes the place of straight-moving traffic while straight-moving traffic is shifted all the way to the curb. The zone a cyclist would ride in is therefore pinched off as the white solid line approaches the curb. This forces cyclists to merge with 30mph traffic to proceed straight through the intersection. It would be nice if some shoulder (space between white line and curb) was maintained for cyclists.
